- Atemi: striking technique
- Irimi: entering, moving into and through the line of attack
- Kata dori: shoulder grab
- Katate dori: wrist grab
- Katate dori ryote mochi: grabbing wrist with two hands
- Kosa dori: cross-hand grab
- Maai: distance of time and space between two forces
- Munetski: straight punch to chest or solar plexus
- Nage: a throw, or the one who throws
- Omote: to the front
- Ryote dori: grabbing both wrists
- Shomenuchi: strike or cut to the top of the head
- Tenkan: turning to dissipate force
- Uke: one who receives, person being thrown
- Ukemi: techniques of falling, protecting oneself from injury
- Ura: to the rear
- Ushiro: from behind
- Yokomenuchi: strike or cut to the side of the head or neck
